This is amazing!

Story of a man pronounced brain-dead who recovered! Makes me wonder about the accuracy of these tests–how can they be sure of no recovery? Maybe they don’t know quite as much as they think they do.

Rather simply NO, they do not. ECGs can only measure brainwave activity that is closest to the surface – what else occurs below that outer edge of the brain is undetectable. To make matters worse, we still largely don’t understand exactly how the brain works! And more often than some like to discuss, these things happen – people awake from states where they were pronounced brain dead.

If that didn’t make matters worse, this well may: to “harvest” organs such as hearts and lungs, they MUST be harvested while the heart is still beating and “brain death” is the justification. The same brain that is “dead” is operating a nervous system that keeps the heart beating.

Does that add up to you?

No, it does not add up to me.

I can’t very well tell people my car is totaled if the engine starts and still runs but the drive shaft is busted. It does not work correctly because something needs to be fixed, but it has not been ruined, has it?

Kathy I am so glad you wrote about this. People don’t talk – and don’t want to talk – about these things. These are the fronteirs of the pro-life movement.
